Last year, Audi took the everyday-friendly Audi R8 GT for sale and made it just a bit hardcore: starting with the optional 5.2-liter V-10 of the base car, they’ve upped the ante to 560hp and 398lb-ft of torque. An R-Tronic sequential manual gearbox is standard and sadly, there will be no stick-shift model of the 2013 Audi R8 GT. Also, 180 pounds has been shaved from the car through a fanatical use of carbon fiber. The front and rear bumpers, side blades, mirror covers and rear wing are all fashioned from the stuff, and further lighting measures have been extended to the battery, rear hatch, braking system and even the carpet. How Audi can make a 2-seat sports car’s carpeting lighter by 17.4 pounds, we’ll never know. Suffice it to say, R8 GT drivers will need to endure a bit more road noise than they may otherwise be accustomed to, but what’s a little more road noise if it means more power to the wheels?

Audi has given the R8 some external changes in previous years, but this year’s R8 GT has gone under the knife and has received a much more noticeable facelift. Redesigned LED headlights and taillights, modified front bumper and grille, larger diffuser, and new circular tailpipes are the biggest changes of them all.

The 2013 Audi R8 GT looks to be the most stylish and powerful iteration to date. In 2015 this model is going to be replaced by a second generation model that is still very much under wraps. The fact that Audi is planning so far ahead for the R8 is a great sign.
