A report by expert historian Marc Rabineau details that chassis SFM 6S947 was sold in 1967 via Inter-Sport of Paris, an official Shelby distributor for France, to Marseille. Remaining in the city, a new owner retained the car from 1969 through to the mid-1980s, at which point it found a custodian in Lyon. rnrnThe 2019 edition of the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) Registry notes that it surfaced in France in 2006 painted blue. By this point, the GT350 had only four French owners from new, and was then acquired by the Swiss Shelby specialist, Burgol Automobiles. It was subsequently returned to white with the addition of classic blue racing stripes. The black interior features a dash-mounted Shelby tachometer, steering wheel with Shelby centre cap, and bucket seats with Ray Brown lap belts. The car was acquired by The Curated Collection in Belgium in June 2014. rnrnThe confidential Ford serial number on the driver's side wing has been verified by SAAC registrar, Howard Pardee (document available to view on file). Please note that the Shelby plate on the driver's side wing is not original to the car. The SFM stamp typically found on the passenger side wing appears to have been etched and not stamped and is missing the SFM prefix. The brake master cylinder has been changed to a dual-bowl setup, the rear brake lines are not correct, and the rear axle has been replaced with a non-factory-specification item. Many regard it as the most attractive model.rnrnThis example is one of a handful sold new to the United States, being delivered to J. Louis Webb of Delray, Florida in December 1961. According to a copy of the factory build sheet, this DB4 was specified in Midnight Blue over White Gold Connolly leather.rnrnChassis DB4/805/L remained in the country but by 1963 had been acquired by an R. Hokin. The car's complete history is unknown, though it resurfaced in 1986 when it was bought by Steve Serio of Waban, Massachusetts, whose ownership lasted 18 months. Reportedly, only a dozen were made. When the outfit gave a similar treatment to the larger DB6, half as many were built. Then FLM Panelcraft of Broughton Street in London, best-known for its Rolls-Royce bodies, devised an even more practical design with a higher roof line, split-folding tailgate, and opening side windows. rnrnThis design won the heart and mind of Lotus's 1961 United States Grand Prix victor, Innes Ireland. The Formula 1 driver bought the first of the three examples produced. Of the trio, only a single DB6 Shooting Brake by FLM Panelcraft was completed in left-hand-drive form: chassis DB6/2366/L offered here.rnrnThe basis was a 1965 saloon ordered to North America by Mr Farrish of Texas specified in Pacific Blue over Beige Connolly leather. He commissioned the conversion; however, it is claimed that the Aston Martin dealer tasked with delivering the car damaged it, causing Mr Farrish to lose interest. While the immediate history thereafter is not clear, after a series of owners the car surfaced in a partly dismantled condition in the Netherlands. rnrnSubsequently purchased by a French collector, this DB6 was restored in England over a period of 15 months by marque specialist Spray Tec of Wellingborough. Advertised for sale in Auto Passion magazine in April 1990, it was then pictured in British racing green. rnrnCome an appearance in the July 1999 issue of the short-lived Auto Live publication, this car wore the light green hue that it is presented in today. The four chrome flourishes that sit on each of the front wings are reminiscent of exhaust stacks on fighter aircraft. For the best effect, Buick designer Ned Nickle added orange lights to his car that flashed in time with the spark plugs. rnrnFirst registered in September 1953, as Buick celebrated its golden anniversary, the example offered here is understood to have been sold new in Paris via General Motors concessionaire, Auto-Hall. According to The Standard Catalog of American Cars by John Gunnell, the Buick was one of 3,318 examples of the 76C Roadmaster Convertible built for the 1953 model year to the 4767X body style. Boasting single-family ownership for almost six decades, this Roadmaster was restored in the late 1990s before being sold at auction in January 2010, when it was acquired by The Curated Collection. rnrnUnderstood to have been built new in Seamist Grey, the Buick is now presented in Ivory over Burgundy upholstery with matching fascia, while the car is equipped with power steering, windows, and soft-top convertible roof. Meanwhile, under the bonnet rests an overhead valve, 322-cubic-inch (5.3-litre) Fireball V-8 engine that delivers 188 horsepower via a Dynaflow automatic transmission, which is controlled by a column-mounted shifter. The car is accompanied by its owner's guides. Aimed at wealthy tycoons rather than playboys, models such as the 365GT 2+2 have always offered an extraordinary mix of performance and practicality. Unveiled at the 1967 Paris Salon, the 320 horsepower, 4.4-litre V-12 could take the car to 245 km/h and handle mountain passes with aplomb. The Pininfarina lines were seductive and exotic, yet-with its roomy cabin, self-levelling independent suspension, and power steering (where fitted)-the Ferrari could cope with the rigours of family life. rnrnFinished in silver with a beautifully mellowed cockpit, this attractive example was reputedly delivered new by Charles Pozzi. First registered on 23 January 1969, it remained in the hands of just two French owners from 1987 until 2014 (during which time it wore the registration 365 SY 51). After receiving a replacement clutch, exhaust, and other improvements, the 365 was sold to northern France in 2014, passing to The Curated Collection two years later. With fewer than 300 kilometres added to the odometer since 2016, the car presents in wonderfully preserved condition. In 1990, the Lamborghini returned to its native Italy, where it resided in the Bologna region, prior to joining The Curated Collection. Production number 80, this US-market example boasts a very rare factory-fitted sunroof, and rides on its correct 15-inch Borrani wire wheels fitted with Pirelli P4000 tyres, which house disc brakes on all four corners. It is accompanied by a classic inspection report, its registration paperwork, assorted correspondence documenting earlier restoration work and maintenance, and its estratto cronologico from its time in Italy. Badged as the Ghibli SS, the revised Tipo AM115/49 employed a 4,930-cc V-8. Developing 330 horsepower and huge reserves of torque, the 280 km/h coupe was Modena's fastest production model yet-and a more-than-fitting concurrent to Ferrari's Daytona.rnrnFrom a total of 1,170 fixed-head Ghiblis, only 425 are believed to have been to SS specification with the 4.9-litre engine. Chassis 1586 is one such machine. Finished in its original colours of Rosso Fuoco with black leather, it is recorded to have rolled off the assembly line on 6 October 1970. Originally delivered to northern Italy, more recently the Maserati has spent time in Belgium and Germany. Some 2,819 units of the 930 Turbo were built with the initial 3.0-litre engine between 1975 and 1977 before production commenced with the 3.3-litre motor from 1978 to 1989. rnrnThis example was completed on 21 January 1977 and delivered new to Germany, according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity that accompanies the car. The 911 was configured by the Stuttgart factory in Grand Prix White, a colour it retains to this day, with optional extras including a Blaupunkt cassette desk and sunroof. The car was finished with the earlier 3.0-litre engine, making it the rarer specimen. The 911 is believed to have remained in Germany for much of its life, with its accompanying service book detailing periodical main dealer servicing from delivery until the 2000s. According to accompanying timesheets, three track days at Spa-Francorchamps were completed between March and October 2023, with approximately 240 kilometres driven during each outing.rnrnAt the celebrated Formula 1 circuit, the twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre flat-six could deploy all 700 horsepower via a seven-speed PDK gearbox. A technical armoury that included carbon ceramic Brembo brakes, Michelin tyres for the 18-inch centre-lock BBS wheels, torque vectoring, stability and traction control, plus ABS helped the lap time. Meanwhile, a six-point harness for the Recaro bucket seat kept the driver in place as cornering forces increased. rnrnPresented in White and bare carbon fibre, preserved by the factory installation of paint protection film, this GT2 RS Clubsport is complemented by a spare parts package in addition to owner's guides, roll cage and fuel cell certificates, and original sales brochures. The odometer showed 1,257 kilometres at the time of cataloguing. It is thought that just 43 Superamericas were configured with this transmission. rnrnIn addition, the car gained the GTC handling pack. This ?20,500 factory option brought carbon ceramic brakes presented with red callipers, a high-ratio steering rack, and a titanium, race-style exhaust system for the naturally aspirated, 5,748-cc V-12 engine rated at 533 horsepower to yield a top speed of 320 km/h. Further specification highlights include a carbon fibre finish for the instrument cluster, a carbon fibre steering wheel, and a body-coloured fuel filler cap rather than the more typical polished aluminium item. rnrnFit for its first owner, the Ferrari was finished on 16 December 2005 before being delivered new via Rosso Corsa Srl of Milan, Italy. Utilising a Formula 1-style powertrain, whereby an internal combustion engine was fed by an electric motor, this was to be the definitive Maranello creation of its era.rnrnBetween 2013 and 2016, just 499 coupe examples of the LaFerrari were built to complete the so-called Holy Trinity alongside the rivalling McLaren P1 and Porsche 918. It was the Italian stallion that boasted the highest power output of the three, courtesy of a naturally aspirated, 6,262-cc V-12 engine that howled up to 9,250 rpm and worked with a 120 kW hybrid system to generate 963 horsepower. That launched the car from 0 to 100 km/h in only 2.9 seconds while Ferrari quoted a top speed in excess of 350 km/h. All told, the LaFerrari could lap the Fiorano test track a staggering five seconds quicker than its Enzo predecessor.rnrnThe example offered here was delivered new to Luxembourg via the famed official French Ferrari importer, Charles Pozzi of Paris. First registered on 31 March 2015, this LaFerrari was presented predominantly in the historic shade of Giallo, specially commissioned by the owner in celebration of the marque's famous shield logo and Modena home-the steering wheel is notably inscribed with the city's Avia pervia motto. The original invoice (available to view on file) shows that this car was specified with a carbon fibre finish for the elegant mirror arms, front splitter and rear diffuser, plus the F1-style rear fog light housing. These beautiful details were protected by the factory installation of paint protection film. rnrnA similar treatment was given to the focused cabin, which features a carbon fibre dashboard complemented by yellow accenting trim, plus the famous Cavallino stitched into the headrests of the race-style bucket seats equipped with black, four-point harnesses. rnrnOriginally, this car wore a set of Argento Nurburgring-painted, five-spoke wheels to sit over yellow callipers for the carbon ceramic brakes. Following the restoration, the car was entered into various Italian rallies in the 1990s. rnrnLater registered in Belgium, in 2017 this Porsche 356 Cabriolet was subject to a nut-and-bolt restoration in the hands of craftsman Albert Haefner. Numerous photographs of the work can be viewed on file. The car was stripped back to bare metal and painted in the factory-correct colour scheme, with the engine rebuilt as well. The final result being a beautifully restored early 356 Cabriolet. rnrnThe consignor acquired this Porsche in 2023, and in August of 2024 it received a service from specialist Tower Porsche of London. The steering box was adjusted, with a new set of spark plugs fitted, as well as four-wheel alignment. However, it was arguably the most defining. Now known as 'Periscopio' cars, these early LP400s gained a small slot in the roof that improved visibility.rnrnFrom these rare and highly sought after editions chassis *number in the description* was, according to the International Lamborghini Registry, delivered new via Achilli Motors of Milan, Italy before being sold to its first owner in Germany on 6 November 1975. Finished by the factory in Rosso over a Nero interior, the LP400 was exported to Fort Lauderdale of Florida. Once in the United States, the new keeper commissioned a cabin colour change to yellow before the Countach was subsequently sold to Sweden. Arriving in Gothenburg in May 1989, the car remained under the care of its custodian for the following 15 years before moving to Stockholm in 2005. While living in the capital city, the Lamborghini was changed to its current combination of silver over tobacco hide. rnrnWearing its elegant configuration and having been serviced by classic car specialist Motikon, the 'Periscopio' was displayed in April 2024 at the FIVA Concours d'Elegance in Essen, Germany, where it finished 2nd in the class for cars heralding from 1971 to 1985. rnrnFor its stunning wedge styling, many consider the Countach to be the archetypal poster pinup supercar. This early and highly sought-after LP400 'Periscopio' example presents the model in its purest form, closest to legendary designer Marcello Gandini's original vision. By 1969, the requirements had changed again, and a loophole created, which rival marque Porsche took full advantage of with the advent of the 917. Following Fiat's partial acquisition of Ferrari, its company founder took the influx of much-needed cash and ploughed it into developing a sports prototype that could compete against the Porsche 917 in the 1970 racing season. rnrnDubbed the 512 S, only 25 cars were built and powered by a brand new 5.0-litre V-12 engine producing 552 horsepower. Ferrari rushed to meet the homologation requirement of 25 cars, presenting 17 complete cars with eight knock-down kits to the homologation authorities in January 1970, just in time to compete at the 24 Hours of Daytona. rnrnChassis 1030 was one of the 17 Ferrari 512 S that would compete in the 1970 endurance racing season. It was sold new in the spring of 1970 to the Belgian Ferrari concessionaire and racing team, Ecurie Francorchamps. The bodywork was painted Giallo, the only 512 to receive this colour (save for chassis 1002, which was painted Lemon Yellow).rnrnMaking its debut on 17 May 1970, drivers Derek Bell and Hugues de Fierlant qualified in 7th and finished 8th overall at the 1000 Km of Spa. Their next outing was over the 13 and 14 June for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Alistair Walker and de Fierlant placed an impressive 5th overall and 4th in the 5.0-litre class. rnrnThat autumn, chassis 1030 made its bow on the big screen, deployed by Steve McQueen for the filming of Le Mans. It then headed to South Africa for the 9 Hours of Kyalami, where it finished 6th overall and 3rd in class. For the 1971 season, on 10 January, Gustave Gosselin and de Fierlandt entered the 1000 Km of Buenos Aires. Sporting race number 18, the Belgian duo finished 6th overall and 4th in class. The pair returned to the Americas over 30 and 31 January to compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona. They qualified in 11th but during the race they were forced to retire on the 124th lap due to oil pressure issues. rnrnFollowing Daytona, chassis 1030 returned to Belgium, where it became one of the 15 Ferrari 512s to be upgraded to 'M' specifications; the 'M' standing for modificata. The new engine was reduced in weight, given more efficient cylinder heads, and now produced 610 horsepower. New lower bodywork improved the aerodynamics and was finished again in yellow. Following its upgrade, Ecurie Francorchamps fielded the car in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Alain de Cadenet driving with de Fierlant. Qualifying in 10th, with six-hundredths separating them from 6th place, the duo unfortunately suffered from gearbox issues and were forced to retire early. rnrnThe next outing on 4 July was far more successful, with de Fierlant claiming outright victory at Zandvoort in the Coupes Benelux. Later that month, de Cadenet and Lothar Motschenbacher raced in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen, placing 4th overall and 3rd in their class. The following day, de Cadenet finished 18th in the Can-Am race. rnrnThis marked the end of chassis 1030's racing days, and the car was acquired by de Cadenet, who in turn sold to British collector Neil Corner that year, who later sold the car to Lord Anthony Bamford in 1972. Lord Bamford entered the 512 M into the MN GT championship that year, with all seven appearances resulting in 1st-place finishes. Since the 1970s, chassis 1030 has been owned by various renowned collectors across the globe, and was acquired by the consignor in 2018, remaining as part of his private collection.rnrnToday, the car sports its 1971 livery and is still painted in the fabulous Francorchamps yellow. It is accompanied by a report from the marque historian Marcel Massini while the car was certified by Ferrari Classiche in 2005, and is accompanied by its Red Book. It should be noted that chassis 1030 is widely considered one of the finest examples of the Ferrari 512 M, having never suffered a major collision in period. Spotting a gap in the market, he leaned on BMW to build a less expensive rival to Mercedes-Benz's offering. The resulting cruiser, which was beautifully styled by Count Albrecht Goertz and equipped with a 3.2-litre alloy V-8 engine paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, ranks as possibly the most desirable design ever to emerge wearing the famous roundel badge. With BMW believed to have lost money on every car sold, just 252 examples were built during a production run that lasted between 1956 and 1959.rnrnCorrespondence with BMW reveals that chassis 70136, offered here, holds a 5 May 1958 production date. As one of just 218 examples of the updated Series II model, it benefits from improved cabin and luggage space. Finished originally in the shade Altelfenbein (old ivory), this 507 Roadster is believed to have been initially displayed at the BMW Pavillon in Munich before being imported to the Cuban capital Havana on 7 June 1958. rnrnAlthough the complete history thereafter is not known, the car moved to Germany in the mid-1980s before being purchased by the consignor in 1988. Soon after, a six-year restoration was embarked upon. The owner reports that Munich-based marque specialist Brummer carried out the mechanical overall, while the bodywork was tended to by Hagl in Attenkirchen, Bavaria (supporting photos available on request). The total price for the work is said to have amounted to 560,000 Deutsche Mark.rnrnPresented today in black, with matching centre-lock Rudge wheels and folding soft-top roof, the interior is trimmed with grey upholstery. A correct-type 3,168-cc V-8 is currently installed, although chassis 70136 is notably accompanied by its matching-numbers engine stamped 40147. The car is further complemented by a rare colour-matching hard-top roof, plus spare fuel tank, and its owner's guides. rnrnFamously owned by the likes of Elvis Presley, John Surtees, Bernie Ecclestone, and Ursula Andress, the BMW 507 Roadster is among the most glamorous automotive creations of all time. The Esprit proved so successful and popular that it was still in production over two decades after its introduction, though it benefited from numerous styling and engineering enhancements over the years.rnrnThe Esprit's edges were softened by new bodywork penned by Julian Thompson for the introduction of the Series 4 in 1994. However, the ante was upped further in 1996 with the introduction of the new V8 model. Mounted behind the driver in a midship position was a Lotus-developed Type 918 twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-8 engine-a motor that, with an output of 350 horsepower, answered any concerns drivers may have had about the comparatively underpowered early Esprits. This was mated to a five-speed manual transaxle; in skilled hands, a 4.4-second 0 to 60 mph sprint was achievable, along with a 175-mph top speed. In typical Lotus fashion, this was a car that punched well above its weight.rnrnThe dashing example on offer is a 2000 Lotus Esprit V8 finished in Azure Blue Metallic over a Magnolia leather interior with blue piping and Beach (honey) carpets. According to the Certificate of Vehicle Provenance on file, just eight Esprits were finished with this color combination for North America in the year 2000. Further aiding this car's desirability, all V8s received AP Racing brakes with aluminum four-piston calipers for the new millennium, increasing the performance potential of the already-impressive sports car. It is mated to a RUF-built transaxle and limited-slip rear differential, routing power rearward through massive 12.5-inch-wide tires. An engineering marvel more luxurious, reliable, and tractable than any competitor of its era, the 959 became a poster car for an entire generation of automotive enthusiasts. rnrnWhile Ferrari and Lamborghini were jousting for the comparatively simple accolade of producing the world's fastest car, a team of Porsche engineers headed by Helmuth Bott, so-called spiritual father of the 911, was given free rein with an enviably open-ended brief: To create the world's most advanced and capable supercar. In every department, Porsche engineers applied cutting-edge technology, no matter the cost, to unlock unparalleled levels of performance. It was Bott's dedication to the ethos that electronics could enhance mechanical performance that made the 959 so spectacular. Outrageously advanced for its time, it introduced numerous features that would become industry standards, boasting an adjustable suspension, intelligent four-wheel drive, lightweight bodywork of Kevlar composite and aluminum, and super-light hollow-spoke magnesium wheels. Any one of these would have been a notable technical achievement on its own, let alone incorporating all of them-and more-into such a well-rounded package. rnrnThe 959 was light-years ahead of its time, and its staggering performance capabilities were eclipsed only by its development costs, which nearly bankrupted Porsche. Despite a manufacturer suggested retail price of 420,000 DM (~$300,000 USD), the company still reportedly lost 50 percent of its costs on each of the 292 units sold. Thankfully, Porsche survived. rnrnBut time marches onward, ever threatening the mystique of the technological tour de force that is the 959; at least, that is, a normal 959.rnrnThe car offered here is anything but normal.rnrnTHE 959 SC REIMAGINED BY CANEPArnrnBruce Canepa is undoubtedly among the world's most legendary Porsche specialists. His company's familiarity with the 959 is unmatched within North America, and he was fortunate to be one of those lucky enough to have experienced firsthand a Porsche 959 in 1987.rnrnHearing of his expertise, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen purchased a 959 from Canepa in 1987; shortly afterward, having experienced Allen's car, Bill Gates acquired one via Canepa as well. The 959 was not originally available for the US market, but Canepa was famously instrumental in the passing of the Show or Display exemption rule, the federal legislation that allowed these highly sought-after vehicles to be driven in the US for the first time in 1999. The first challenge was to meet federal and state emissions standards, ultimately creating a 580-horsepower, emissions-legal engine with Canepa's Gen 1 upgrade.rnrnContinued driving experiences with the model over the next 20 years led Bruce to evaluate and pinpoint every aspect of the 959 that could be improved. These observations turned into two decades of continuous research and development, thousands of real-world miles driven, and many stages of refining product prototypes. From the arduous work, Canepa would unveil a series of performance upgrades for fitment to any standard Porsche 959. Another two generations of successive upgrades were surpassed with the debut of Canepa's 959 SC program in 2015, which endeavored to entirely recommission and reengineer the model to outperform anything that could have been offered by the Porsche factory.rnrnWhereas the original 959 left the factory with 444 horsepower from its 2.85-liter sequential-turbo flat-six, the 959 SC Reimagined by Canepa uses upgraded BorgWarner turbos (with internal wastegate) in a parallel twin-turbo system and new engine management based around MoTec hardware to nearly double that figure to 825 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.rnrnStandard 959 engine internals give way to forged pistons, Pankl titanium connecting rods, and other upgraded componentry. The camshafts have been revised to offer improved low-end torque and mid-range power, and the valve train has been entirely redesigned for better responses. Individual coil packs supplant the original ignition distributor, while completely revised intake systems, equal-length, tungsten-ceramic-coated exhaust headers, and a two-stage exhaust system of stainless steel and titanium give the new engine sufficient bark to match its bite.rnrnAs for the suspension, by upgrading the original 959 Sport coilover system with custom valved shocks from Penske and titanium springs, the 959 SC's handling is greatly improved at all speeds, along with the ride quality on all types of surfaces. Canepa also produced new cast-magnesium 18-inch hollow-spoke wheels that take full advantage of the latest advancements in production and materials technology while staying true to Porsche's original 959 design.rnrnMore than 4,000 hours go into each build and over 3,000 individual pieces get restored, rebuilt, or upgraded. Nothing is left unchecked or untouched on every 959 that Canepa reimagines; they are completely disassembled, and entirely rebuilt as better-than-new machines. Color combinations and final touches are tailor-made to each client's specifications in close collaboration with Bruce Canepa. Those fortunate enough to secure a 959 SC order slot can choose from over 200 Porsche factory and paint-to-sample colors. Each example is one of one, with production set at just 50 in total.rnrn959 SC 003rnrnThis 1988 Porsche 959 began its life as one of the 207 Komfort models produced. Originally finished in Silver Metallic over standard gray leather, it was delivered new to Monte Carlo. Having subsequently been sold to Japan and displayed within a private museum in Tokyo, it remained there until it was imported to the United States in September 2016. A highly original example then showing fewer than 38,500 kilometers (~23,923 miles), it was discreetly offered to one of Canepa's clients as 003, and then completely disassembled to begin its comprehensive transformation.rnrnEqual parts mechanical marvel and visual masterpiece, 003 is the sole 959 SC that will wear this marvelous shade of paint-to-sample Emerald Green. The interior is beautifully finished in plush Dark Green leather, while the 18-inch wheels feature Canepa's proprietary graphite finish that mirrors the look of oxidized magnesium, a handsome and subtle nod to the Porsche racecars in which the original client contests several professional racing series. Of course, everything about the 959 SC is designed to look the part of factory work, and the revisions would largely appear to be OEM to all but the most discerning, well-informed Porsche enthusiast.rnrnBesides being exhibited while under Canepa's care, 003 has been very well received in the Porsche community at several major events, including Luftgekuhlt 4 in 2017, Rennsport Reunion VI in 2018, and the 2022 Velocity Invitational. Serviced as needed, approximately 18 months ago the car benefited from a stated $172,000 in upgrades to bring it up to the most current 959 SC specification.rnrnIn December 2024, 003 returned to Canepa for an engine-out service and other work totaling nearly $70,000, invoices for which are on file. Following its immense success, racing sponsors clamored for a roadgoing version. Porsche's Exclusive Manufaktur program-sometimes called Sonderwunsch, or Special Wishes-obliged with an option package for the 911 Turbo. The resulting bodywork resembled the aerodynamic 935, with louvered steel front fenders made flush with the hood and fitted with retractable headlamps. The rocker panels were boxed and extended to meet the widened rear quarter panels, which contained new brake-cooling vents with side strakes and an electric fan for additional oil cooling. Wider wheels and tires were fitted at both ends.rnrnWithin months of the 935-inspired Flat-Nose treatment's debut as an option for the European market in 1981, Porsche was overwhelmed with customer requests. Unsurprisingly, it was typically the wealthiest clientele who ordered these cars, often with many additional factory upgrades. In 1987, Porsche finally added the North American Flat-Nose package-known by the option code M505-to its catalogue. Out of the 618 total produced for North America from 1987 through 1989, numerous examples ended up in the hands of celebrities, including movie stars, eccentric royals, and athletes. Even NBA legend Michael Jordan was swept up in so-called Flat-Nose Fever. A famous series of photos show him stepping off a private plane and right into his Grand Prix White M505 Cabriolet-the NBA Championship trophy tucked neatly into the passenger seat. rnrnThe 911 Turbo Cabriolet offered here is a uniquely specified example from the small run of just 50 US-market Flat-Nose Cabriolets produced for the 1989 model year. It is finished in a rare and particularly attractive paint-to-sample color of Mercedes-Benz Diamond Blue Metallic (DB 355) that pairs beautifully with the Silk Grey extended leather interior. The color-coordinated Fuchs wheels and dark blue top complete the remarkable presentation. Notably, it is the only US-market 911 Turbo Cabriolet Flat-Nose produced in paint-to-sample Mercedes-Benz Diamond Blue Metallic and also equipped from the factory with the desirable G50 five-speed manual transmission. Murphy Company of Pasadena, California. Among the best-known survivors of the roughly 25 built, body number 921 was delivered to Duesenberg on 4 May 1930, and installed on chassis and firewall number 2414 with engine number J-395, tested that August. Significantly, the car has remained intact, with all of these components, including the original crankshaft numbered 395, since new.rnrnAccording to the records of Duesenberg historian Dwight Schooling, J-395's earliest known owner was Blake Garner of Chicago, who possessed it in 1936. Cyrus Blake Garner was a young, wealthy investment banker who later moved to Hollywood, becoming well-known as a film producer and as a playboy frequently named in the gossip columns as a companion and would-be husband of actresses. It is likely that the Model J first moved to Glitter Gulch under his auspices. In 1941 it was photographed by contemporary Duesenberg owner Jim Talmadge at a Los Angeles gas station, finished in a distinctive pale yellow and green livery that it would retain for over 40 years.rnrnAround this time George Schweiger Jr. purchased the car for his company Pacific Auto Rental. Operating out of a rather nondescript warehouse at 310 South Berendo Street, Pacific Auto Rental served a very useful purpose in Hollywood, the supplying of prop cars to film studios with a catalogue that covered virtually every imaginable type of vehicle. It supplied Norma Desmond's Isotta Fraschini for Sunset Boulevard and Mercedes-Benzes for Hogan's Heroes. The firm was, ironically, notably publicity-shy. George Schweiger Sr., who succeeded his son following the former's untimely passing, often told journalists interested in photographing his premises, I get paid for photos of my cars.rnrnPacific Auto Rental sold J-395 in May 1949, but after two brief stints with owners in Coalinga, California, it returned to the fold in 1956 and remained part of the fleet for the duration of the company's existence. Its best-known appearance was in the 1962 psychological thriller Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? alongside Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, in which it serves as both a pivotal figure in the film's opening scenes and as a symbol of diva starlet Blanche Hudson's success. I don't get it, one character says to another, admiring it on a film studio lot. What do they make monsters like this for? To which another answers, For Blanche Hudson! rnrnBuxom Jayne Mansfield, a legendary sex symbol of the era, posed with the Duesenberg for publicity photos. During the 1970s it became a regular in the television series Bring 'Em Back Alive, and in 1978 it made a cameo in the film Gable and Lombard. In August 1970 the car was even the subject of a feature article in Car Classics magazine, with photos for which, one would have to assume, Mr. Schweiger was well-compensated. Road-tester Alan Campbell noted, The motor spins to life the minute the starter is touched, and on the road the massive machine hums like a locomotive...More than one policeman gave the Duesenberg a friendly wave of approval instead of a ticket. The speed creeps up on you. Driving at what I thought was 30 mph I was shocked to look down and see the speedometer registering 45 mph on Wilshire Boulevard!rnrnFollowing Mr. Schweiger's passing, the whole of the Pacific Auto Rentals fleet was sold to the Imperial Palace of Las Vegas, which cherry-picked the cars and sold the remainder at a now-legendary auction on the lawn of the Ambassador Hotel on 18 August 1995. The late, renowned collector Oscar Davis successfully bid on J-395, which he had refinished by Mike Fennel in cream with a maroon chassis before, ironically, selling it back to the Imperial Palace, reportedly as the 50th Duesenberg in their vast collection. Soon thereafter it was inspected by the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club and awarded Category 1 Certification (D-146).rnrnFollowing the dispersal of the Imperial Palace fleet in 1998, respected collectors and well-known friends to many Chris and Kathleen Koch purchased J-395. The Kochs reportedly invested some $500,000 in restoration of the Model J, with a full mechanical rebuild undertaken by the acclaimed Duesenberg specialist Brian Joseph's Classic & Exotic Service of Troy, Michigan, and cosmetic restoration and final assembly by noted craftsman Steve Cooley of Tavares, Florida. Afterward, the car was judged First in Class at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2005, the first of no fewer than 18 victories it would achieve in the next two years. In 2008, the Model J became part of the legendary Andrews Collection in Texas, where it resided alongside several other outstanding Duesenbergs and many other superb Full Classics.rnrnThe immediate prior owner acquired J-395 in 2015 and it was soon submitted to Mr. Joseph's Classic & Exotic Service for comprehensive mechanical sorting and cosmetic improvements, including proper adjustments of the valve and cam timing, ensuring that all gauges function, installing new front wheel bearings, and properly rebuilding the Watson Stabilators. Most importantly, the car was fitted with a high-speed ring and pinion, so that, true to the Duesenberg mystique, it is a car which likes to go fast. In current ownership it has been fitted with new carpeting and a new top to the proper original design, and has had the fuel system rebuilt and attention given to some of the major chrome pieces.
