This 1936 Pierce-Arrow Deluxe 8 Convertible Sedan is an absolutely stunning, professionally restored CCCA Full Classic that is ready to be shown or enjoyed on a nice summer day! Founded in Buffalo, NY in 1865, Pierce-Arrow's predecessor Heintz, Pierce and Munschauer produced birdcages, ice boxes, and a variety of other household goods. By the end of the 19th Century, the company was renamed the George N. Pierce Company and manufactured bicycles. In 1900, the company unsuccessfully attempted to build its first automobile, a steam-powered car, but the following year shifted its automobile building efforts into a gasoline-powered car. In 1909, the company changed its name again finally landing on Pierce-Arrow. Pierce-Arrow's most iconic attribute arrived in 1913 when Herbert M. Dawley patented the iconic headlight design where Pierce-Arrow headlights would be incorporated into the front fenders, something that would become commonplace by 1940 but was unheard of in the early 20th Century, and a feature that was exclusively available on Pierce-Arrow's automobiles. As the years progressed, Pierce-Arrow earned a reputation of being among the most preeminent luxury automotive manufacturers, with peers including Cadillac, Packard, and a few others. Yet, by the 1920s Pierce-Arrow began experiencing turbulent times as a company leading to a merger with Studebaker. While Pierce-Arrow sales grew under the merger, the momentum ground to a halt with the onset of the Great Depression. By 1933, Studebaker was placed into receivership and Pierce-Arrow was sold off to a group of local Buffalo investors only to find itself in its own receivership a year later but in May of 1935 Pierce-Arrow was no longer in bankruptcy. In 1936, Pierce-Arrow leaned into its highly regarded reputation for producing high-end premier automobiles. The 1936 models are regarded as some of Pierce-Arrow's finest cars both mechanically and aesthetically, but folks were simply not spending money on ostentatious, luxury cars despite the company's advertising efforts to convince them to. Additionally, unlike its contemporaries like Cadillac, Packard, and Lincoln, Pierce refused to release a more moderately priced model to drum up sales. However, just 2 years later, Pierce-Arrow was officially out of business by March 1938 after years of falling sales due to its inability to sell enough cars during the Depression years. In 1936, a mere 787 automobiles which makes this particular example quite a rare piece for anybody's collection. Moreover, due to its impeccable design and high level of distinction, this '36 Pierce-Arrow Convertible Sedan has been deemed a Full Classic by the Classic Car Club of America which makes it eligible for CCCA events as well as on CCCA CARavans. Under the hood on this '36 Pierce-Arrow is a 385 cubic inch Inline 8 cylinder engine fed by a Stromberg single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have created 150 horsepower when new. This Pierce-Arrow's Inline 8 engine is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted via a floor mounted shifter. Exhaust exits the 150hp powerplant generating a terrific sound out of a single tailpipe. Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on color-matched painted wire wheels and accented with chrome Pierce-Arrow hubcaps, this Deluxe 8 Convertible has a gorgeous stance whether parked on the show field or whether cruising down the road in a CCCA CARavan. Dual covered side-mounted spare tires further add to the outstanding elegant appearance of this Pre-War Full Classic. The chrome and brightwork around the exterior of this 1936 Pierce-Arrow Deluxe 8 is in wonderful shape as well and is sure to garner lots of attention. Likewise, the polished Archer Pierce-Arrow hood ornament looks great as well, adding to the truly distinguished presence of this Deluxe Eight. The blue Hartz-cloth convertible top is in fantastic condition and makes for beautiful looking car whether raised or whether it's in the down position tucked underneath the matching boot cover. The bustle back truck is nicely detailed as well and is surprisingly spacious especially for a car of this era. The steel body has been refinished in beautiful Parrot Blue paint that completes the stunning exterior look of this outstanding automobile. The interior of this 1936 Pierce-Arrow Deluxe 8 Convertible Sedan is absolutely stunning! The front and rear bench seats are extremely comfortable and have been reupholstered in matching light blue leather in a period correct pattern. Grey wilton wool carpeting beautifully covers the flooring of the front and rear passenger compartments and give this Convertible Sedan a wonderful period look and feel. The rear passenger compartment is nicely optioned with a carpeted footrest, leather-wrapped robe bar, locking storage compartment, a folding leather center armrest, and a pair of bejeweled cigar lighters and ashtrays incorporated into the side armrests on each side. The driver's compartment is similarly full-featured and also shows particularly well. The painted dash and black steering wheel both look great and retain a wonderful stock appearance. This Pierce-Arrow also sports full instrumentation including a 120 MPH speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. Model B

This 1930 Pierce-Arrow Model B Convertible Coupe is a wonderfully luxurious pre-war convertible and is certified by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) as a "Full Classic." From modest mid-19th Century origins, few could have expected a small Buffalo-based birdcage and ice box manufacturer would become one of the most distinguished pre-War automobile builders who still today has left a lasting legacy of design on automotive design in the United States and across the globe. At the turn of the 20th century, Pierce-Arrow was renowned for its technological advancements, high-end build quality, and iconic design, highlighted by the iconic fender-embedded headlight that was patented by the company in 1913 and would eventually become the universal standard in the US by the 1940s. However, by the late 20s, Pierce-Arrow had slipped behind its rivals Cadillac and Packard with regards to technological innovation, specifically in the fact that both Cadillac and Packard were selling 8 cylinder engines whereas P-A only offered a 6 cylinder engine. In 1928, after facing months of financial trouble Pierce-Arrow sold to Studebaker making the combined companies the 4th largest American auto group. Despite the merger, Pierce-Arrow seemed to operate independently from its lower-priced parent company. Then in 1929, the company released the Pierce-designed straight 8, leading what appeared to be a resurgence in sales at Pierce-Arrow and the best sales year in the company's history. Coming off this massive success, Pierce-Arrow released 3 new models, with 3 different engines, on 4 different wheelbases for the 1930 model year, comprising 18 distinct body styles. In retrospect, there were far too many choices in a time where the company would have been better off keeping its offerings simple and limited, due to Depression-induced financial uncertainty and likely a shrinking customer base. While Pierce-Arrow's momentum was slowed by the onset of the Great Depression, sales still remained fairly strong in 1930 with total production sitting a tad shy of 7,000 cars. Due to its status as a fine and distinctive automobile, the Classic Car Club of America has designated this 1930 Pierce-Arrow as a Full Classic meaning that its eligible to participate at CCCA events and CARavans. This particular Pierce-Arrow Convertible Coupe comes to us from a prominent museum collection where it was well maintained. Powering this '30 Pierce-Arrow Convertible Coupe is a 366 cubic inch L-Head Inline 8 cylinder engine fed by a single 2 barrel Stromberg updraft carburetor that together were rated at 125 horsepower from the factory. The 366 CID Straight 8 is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted with a floor-mounted shifter. Exhaust exits this Pierce's power plant via a single exhaust port, generating a surprisingly quiet rumble out the rear as is often touted by Pierce-Arrow enthusiasts. For an early '30s pre-war automobile, this Model B Convertible Coupe is well-optioned. A rear-mounted luggage rack makes this Pierce-Arrow a wonderful choice for overnight CARavans since you can bring along your belongings. Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on optional wire wheels and accented with chrome hubcaps, this Pierce Arrow Convertible Coupe has a truly upscale look. Further adding to high-end look of this Pierce-Arrow are dual side-mounted spare tires available should you need them, and each are topped with optional side mirrors that provide improved visibility down the sides of this CCCA Full Classic. The tan cloth convertible top comes outfitted with a glass rear window and, like all convertibles in this era, it's raised and lowered by hand. Supplementing the iconic Pierce-Arrow fender-embedded headlights are a pair of auxiliary fog lamps that provide additional visibility in low light driving. The exterior of this Model B Convertible Coupe has a wonderfully sporty look, comprised of a Crimson Red painted body and louvered hood, with black accents and red pinstripes contrasted by the black painted fenders with red edge piping. The interior of this 1930 Pierce-Arrow Model B Convertible Coupe is also quite luxurious. The front seat along with the rear rumble seat have been refurbished in medium tan upholstery. The matching door panels, wooden trim, black carpeting, steering wheel, and woodgrain-trimmed dash all retain a nice stock appearance on this wonderful pre-war Classic. Instrumentation includes a rotary-style speedometer, temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, and gasoline gauge, as well as a clock by Waltham. The dash is finished off with various other vehicle controls as well as a couple of chrome map lights. Whether you're buying your very first classic car or you're a card carrying CCCA member who's looking to add a great driver to their stable of Full Classics, this 1930 Pierce-Arrow Model B Convertible Coupe would make a great choice.
