Used Mercedes E-Class For Sale

The first generation of cars to be designated as E-Class were the facelifted W124 models, and they were in production from 1993 to 1995. Multiple engine options were available, ranging from a diesel version to a gasoline-powered V8, though a Mercedes-Benz E-Class for sale in the United States was not able to select the four-cylinder gasoline option. During the time this generation was available, buyers could also select from the coupe, saloon, convertible and estate body configurations. A wagon was also available.

The rise of the E-Class came at the same time as the introduction of a new nomenclature system for the German manufacturer, in 1993. Its predecessors date back to earlier days, coming in the form of a sedan featuring “Einspritzmotor,” German for a fuel injection engine. The “E” designation appeared at the end of the name of any car bearing such an engine, and after nearly 63 years of use, it became its own classification.

The second generation went into production from 1995-2002, carrying the model line into the new millennium with visual, mechanical and quality improvements overall. The headlights shifted from a boxy appearance to a rounded design, with the front fascia becoming more narrow and sleek than the earlier models. As with the first generation, buyers could select from a convertible, saloon, coupe or estate body configuration.

The third generation, produced from 2002-2009, saw yet another exterior facelift and a few new variants to appeal to different demographics. From a four-door coupe to an AMG variant, the E63 AMG, this model line became one of the most versatile and varying available from the marque. This is just one of the reasons you often find vehicles used as city vehicles across Europe and Asia, from taxis, to police cruisers.

For the fourth and most recent generation, the Cabriolet first came around. The W212 cabriolet was introduced at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, and was available for purchase that same year. The fifth generation is planned for 2016.
