Used Mercedes-Benz S Class For Sale

For a marque that’s existed as long as MB, with a history as storied as theirs, the model that they call their flagship must be undoubtedly impressive. The sedan officially began production in 1972, though as with many other models, its predecessors date back to the models of the 1950s. From drivetrain technologies to new safety features, the luxury car has been used by MB to unveil new innovations and creations for more than fifty years.

In its sixth generation, the car was used to introduce features originally seen on concept cars. In its first year, 2013, it became the first vehicle in the industry to exclusively feature LED lights inside and out. For the 2014 S-Class, a heads-up display and a gesture-responsive touchpad were integrated for the first time.

The first-generation sedan began this trend of groundbreaking developments for the company. During its production time from 1972-1980, approximately 473,035 units were created and sold, each showing that just because a car was beautifully styled and designed didn’t mean that it couldn’t also be safe.

The S-Class coupe was introduced for the second generation, which was produced from 1979-1992. It proved to be a popular option, as an additional 74,060 were sold on top of the 818,036. The third generation had few changes aside from larger proportions, a few new features, and the standard facelift, though the price was increased by an impressive 25 percent.

Performance figures had a little more fun in the fourth generation, produced from 1998-2005 when the AMG models were unveiled.

For Mercedes, ‘S-Class’ has come to stand for flagship. With the introduction of the new Coupe, I think it’s safe to say the ‘S’ now also stands for ‘sexy.’ Largely the same as the S-Class concept unveiled at auto shows last year, the design is undeniably striking. But even more striking is the coupe’s first-ever active curve tilting function. The curve tilt function allows the car to actually lean into corners at angles of up to 2.5 degrees. The result is pure road-carving-pleasure equal to strapping on a pair of skis with a significant side cut and laying down an epic line. To make this possible, Mercedes installed a road-scanning camera as part of its Magic Body Control Adaptive Suspension. Magic it is. Even when it’s not being used aggressively through twisting canyon curves or banked corners on the track, I found that the system even managed to minimize road imperfections for a remarkably smooth ride. Couple that wizardry with the twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter V-8 power plant and lavish, yet aggressive.

The seventh-gen S-Class will remain Mercedes pinnacle of luxury, technology, and styling. There will most likely be three engine options available, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission throughout the range. The most exciting new concept is the inclusion of possible Level 3 autonomy, which Mercedes is calling Drive Pilot. The interior is always the real claim to fame of the S-Class,and highlights will include fresh horizontal design elements with a large infotainment screen and digital gauge cluster. The new S-Class model is said to be getting more aggressive exterior styling across the board which should appeal to those who prefer a sportier take on the latest Mercedes.
