At the IAA in September 1955, BMW presented its two new flagships, the 507 and the 503. The trade press and the public were enthusiastic.

In contrast to the 507, the sports car designed by Albrecht Graf von Goertz used the classic vertical BMW kidney and offered space for four people.

With its electro-hydraulic soft top and electric windows, it was one of the most modern and luxurious cars of the mid-1950s.

However, with a price of 29,500 DM it was almost three times as expensive as a Porsche 356 and even about 3,000 DM more expensive than the 507!

The number of units for both the convertible and the coupé therefore remained very low.

In the first series 78 and in the second only 58 cabriolets were produced.

Our car was delivered new to the dealer "Europa-Garage Saarbrücken".

According to reports, the first owner was a sales representative from Kaiserslautern.

Further owners can be found in the original documents.

The 503 has been in the current ownership since 1982!

From 1983-1986, the car was completely restored to an unusually high standard for the time. The work is documented in invoices and, for the most part, in photographs.

In the last 40 years the owner enjoyed many beautiful trips and journeys with his 503 Cabriolet. For reasons of age, he is now parting with his classic car.

The vehicle also comes with a custom-made 4-piece set of luggage.

DID YOU KNOW = The term shooting brake comes from turn-of-the-century England, where it referred to a car used to transport a hunting party and its gear. Brake referred to a chassis that was used to break in horses. It eventually just came to refer to early wagons in general.    A little of history: The only four engines were available in the 550E36/8 which were the M52 (2.8L), the M54 (3.0L), the S52 (3.2L), and the almighty 3.2L S54 engine from the E46 M3 which originally produced 333 HP, but in the Z3M, the only Z3 was offered in the S54 has been tuned down to 315 HP, because an ugly shooting brake couldnât have more power than the flagship M3. Although the E36/8 was developed during the time of the E36, the E30 trailing arms were carried over in order to reduce production cost. It is quite easy to tell the difference between a M Coupe and a regular Z3 Coupe, other than just the badges. Like all other M3âs, there were changes done to the M Coupe to make it different, such as wider fenders and quad exhausts. *1976 BMW 2002 S14 Powered*BMW has always been the German car brand with a reputation for building practical vehicles with some sporty driving dynamics attached to them. Where that really began in the US market was with the BMW 2002 which was first sold in the mid-1960s. Powered by a 2.0 liter inline-4, the 2002 was quick and agile, while retaining loads of interior and luggage space, and exhibiting exceptional build quality. Sold in the United States until 1976, the 2002 is a proper classic and thanks to its great base, makes a perfect vehicle for modifying, with nearly endless possibilities.This 1976 BMW 2002 is finished in red with black bolt on fender flares, and fiberglass front and rear European bumpers. This example has been comprehensively modified to turn it from a fun car to toss around, to a legitimate performance vehicle with upgrades to the engine, gearbox, brakes and suspension. The original 14 wheels have been swapped out for a set of 16 BBS mesh wheels that are wrapped in sticky 225 Yokohama tires. Sitting behind those wheels are a set of Volvo disc brakes that are a well known upgraded over the original front disc/rear drum setup.On the underside of this 2002 is where things get really interesting- sitting under the hood is a 2.3-liter DOHC BMW S14 inline-4 out of an E30 M3. This is a legendary engine that produces nearly 200 horsepower and with its 4 individual throttle bodies, offers instant throttle response and an outstanding intake bark. If this isn't enough power for you, this car has been fitted with a Sniper shot nitrous system for an extra boost when you need it and a Magnaflow muffler opens things up and makes the car sound wonderful. This engine is connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox with an overdrive 5th gear, and sends power to the rear wheels. Sitting on a set of Ireland Engineering lowering springs, the car has a great stance and sits perfectly on those 16 wheels.Inside the 2002, a set of Corbeau racing seats have been fitted along with harnesses- which are attached to the Kirk Racing bolt-in roll cage where the rear seats used to be. Fitted with custom door panels and center console, this 2002 is fitted with a full suite of gauges including an Auto Meter tachometer, Sun Pro Oil Temperature and Pressure gauges along with a secondary water temp gauge. An Alcantara wrapped Momo steering wheel sits in front of the driver and gives a great place to hold on for the ride- and features a button on one spoke to activate the aforementioned nitrous. A Pioneer head unit is paired to a Mosfet amp, 2 PowerBass Subs in a custom speakerbox and modern door speakers, which are great for driving down the highway when you don't want to listen to the Motorsport derived engine.The BMW 2002 is beloved by car enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike- and when paired with BMW's potent S14 inline-4, it becomes a real terror on the backroads.
