1968 Ford Torino NASCAR  Built and campaigned by Holman Moody Driven by David Pearson in his 1968 championship NASCAR season Sold by Holman-Moody to Wendell Scott after 1968 championship season Purchased by David Pearson sometime after 2000  Hailing from Spartanburg, South Carolina, David Pearson was an American stock car racer. Winning the NASCAR Rookie of the Year award the very first year he raced in 1960, Pearson would go on to become one of the most distinguished and respected NASCAR drivers. Going up against the likes of Richard Petty and other racing legends, Pearson cemented himself in history with 105 outright victories. Inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2011, David Pearson was respected and revered by some of the very best in motorsport.  In 1968, Pearson entered 48 of the year's 49 events. Campaigning a Holman-Moody #17 Ford Torino he qualified on the pole on 12 separate occasions, won 16 events, scored 36 top-fives, and won his second NASCAR Grand National championship. That season he scored wins at some of the most famous racetracks: Darlington, Charlotte, Bristol, Richmond, North Wilkesboro, Nashville Speedway, Asheville-Weaverville, Beltsville Speedway, Langley Field Speedway, Middle Georgia Raceway, Columbia, Bowman-Gray, Hickory, and Augusta Speedway.  Once the 1968 season ended, the Torino was retired as new cars would be built for the 1969 season. David Pearson was expecting Holman-Moody to offer him the car to buy to keep since it was one of the 1968 championship-season cars, but Ford Motor Company had other plans. Wendell Scott, one of the first African-American drivers in NASCAR and the first African-American to win a race in the Grand National Series, was given the opportunity to buy the Torino per the instructions from Ford to Holman-Moody. To add insult, Holman-Moody sold it to Scott for One Dollar! David wouldn't be reunited with his championship-year car until more than three decades later.  Steve Gantz of Ankeny, Iowa restored the Torino to its former glory, returning the race car back to its original as-raced specification.  With accurate attention to detail in bringing the car back to how David Pearson raced back in the day, the car was now exactly how it was in 1968. The dashboard of the Torino was signed by David Pearson and team members from Holman-Moody when the restoration was complete.  David was finally reunited with his car sometime in the early 2000s, in exactly the way that he raced it in his championship season. Pearson took the Torino to numerous current NASCAR races as part of pre-race parade laps, as well as taking part in historic displays. In 2007 Pearson decided that it was time to sell the famous NASCAR and called Bruce. Bruce Canepa and David Pearson knew of each other through racing and later became friends through their similar passion in race cars and racing historic cars.  It didn't take long for the Pearson Torino to arrive at Canepa's doors in early 2007. The car was immediately given an intensive examination of all of its cosmetic and mechanical components. With the restoration done by Gantz in great condition, Bruce then decided that it was time to prep the car for historic racing. Going through the entire car, from suspension to drivetrain, brakes and steering to tuning the engine, nothing went unchecked to ensure that this race car could now participate in modern vintage racing. With its work completed to become a formidable vintage track car, the car was then sold to a prominent collector who kept the car in their possession for over seven years. Returning to Canepa with barely any track time whatsoever, the Torino presents and performs exactly the way that it left from Canepa in the summer of 2007.  Now available for those looking for an iconic piece of NASCAR history, owned and driven by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver David Pearson, this car is an excellent museum piece and capable entrant into vintage racing. With formidable power, perfected handling, a menacing presence with museum quality, it is the perfect combination. 1975 Ford Torino IMSA / NASCAR  Team: Holman Moody Drivers: David Pearson, Larry Pearson, Gary Bowsher, Jim Bowsher Engine: Ford Boss 429 Cubic Inch V8 Horsepower: 600+ Weight: 3500 lbs Top Speed: 207 MPH  In 1975 NASCAR founder Bill France asked IMSA and the FIA to create a class for stock cars in their series, and in particular the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Holman and Moody built this car at France's suggestion specifically for those two races.  This car was based on a fabricated Grand National style chassis that was nearly identical to the one developed for oval track racing. NASCAR Ford Galaxie based front suspension components and massive drum brakes were used up front, with a trailing arm-equipped, coil spring suspension system in the rear.  Power came from a dry sump equipped Boss 429 engine mounted as low and rearward in the chassis as possible to aid in handling.  The IMSA rules allowed more freedom in fabricating the body than what was allowed in NASCAR racing. The Torino's body was sectioned so severely that its rocker panels were completely removed. Large front and rear spoilers add to the car's road race looks and serve as the mounting points for brake and driving lights.  David Pearson and his son Larry, along with Jack Bowsher's sons, Gary and Jim, were assigned to drive the car at Daytona. The Pearsons led the NASCAR class during the daylight hours of the race. As night fell, the Bowsher's kept the car in contention until they were sidelined for three hours while a blown engine was changed. The team came back to finish a remarkable first in class and sixteenth overall.  Plans to campaign the car at the fabled 24 Hours of Le Mans fell through when John Holman unexpectedly passed away. The Torino was never raced again. This car has not been restored-it is exactly as it rolled off the track at Daytona in 1976.  David Pearson is second only to Richard Petty on NASCAR's all-time win list with 105 victories. In all, Pearson entered 572 races, of which he won 105 and placed within the top five 301 times. Pearson was the NASCAR Champion in 1966, 1968 and 1969. Pearson became the first man to break the 190 mph barrier at Daytona in 1969.  Holman Moody was Ford Motor Company's official racing contractor. They prepared the famous Ford GT 40s, A/FX Mustangs, Shelby Cobras, and Stock Cars. They have competed in NASCAR, Sports Car Racing, Drag Racing, and Ocean Boat Racing.

Ribbs - 8 wins 1986 IMSA GTO Championship Winner - Scott Pruett Chassis designed by Bob Riley and Gary Pratt 5,868cc (5.9-liter) Roush V8 / 650-800 HP Weissman 5-speed manual Presented in 1986 IMSA GTO Championship livery  Ford hired Jack Roush to build and enter a Mercury Capri in the SCCA Trans-Am Championship before the 1984 racing season. Roush, who is a specialist in engines, enlisted the assistance of the specialized business Protofab to build the custom chassis. Charlie Selix founded Protofab, which hired engineers Bob Riley and Gary Pratt to develop the chassis.  The Trans-Am cars of the 1980s only vaguely resembled the road cars they were built on; they were very much a silhouette formula. The Protofab built Roush Capri had a steel tubular frame and fiberglass body. Roush concentrated his efforts on the Ford V8 with high-performance natural aspiration. The engine was capable of producing at least 650 horsepower and as much as 800 horsepower later, despite only having one carburettor.  In 1985, Willy T. Ribbs raced chassis 008 in the Trans-Am series as a Mercury Capri. More prize money was won by him in one season than by any other Trans-Am racer with eight victories.  In 1986, Scott Pruett drove chassis 008, now rebodied as a Mustang with Motorcraft sponsorship to win the IMSA GTO championship.  Restored by Chris Liebenberg to its championship spec and livery, the Mustang made its way to the west coast where it was sold to Phil Gallant, then to Zak Brown. This year marked the debut of Ford's iconic Flathead V-8 as the sole engine option, bidding farewell to the four-cylinder engine from the Model A. The side-valve 'flathead' V-8, originally introduced in 1932, revolutionized the automotive industry as its first mass-produced, affordable V-8 engine. With the 1935 model, the Flathead V-8 generated an impressive 85 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque, a noteworthy improvement of 10 horsepower over the previous year's variant.  The 1935 model year witnessed a host of improvements in the Ford lineup. Notable enhancements include a refined front suspension, repositioned engine for increased interior space and improved weight distribution, a revised frame, and an upgraded suspension system for a smoother ride. Ford's renowned Flathead V-8 engine is powering this exceptional coupe, which, at just three years old in '35, still shines as a masterpiece of engineering.  The exterior of the Model 48 showcases a visually captivating design characterized by a lowered body, an elongated front grille, seamless integrated fenders, and a curvaceous, aerodynamic body. Among the various body styles offered, the sporty and dramatic 3-window coupe, identified as body style 720, takes center stage. While perhaps less practical than other options, this coupe's exaggerated proportions and curves make a bold statement. What makes this particular '35 Ford coupe special is its understated "Hot Rod" features and its period-correct exterior.  The car's sole exterior giveaways are big-and-little blackwall tires and the deep rumbling of the twin exhaust pipes. It has been lowered just a few inches thanks to a 2" dropped axle, reversed spring eyes, and de-cambered transverse leaf buggy springs.  Other notable features include a meticulously rebuilt Mercury V-8 engine with an Italian-built S.C.O.T. 4,500cc Roots-type supercharger, fully restored brightwork, pristine brown leather interior seating, a convenient tilt-out windshield, a roll-down rear window complete with a retractable sunshade, and a flawlessly executed deep black single-stage paint job; a total ground-up restoration/build.   This car's builder, Dave Simard, had this car repainted in DuPont single-stage Pitch Black Centari enamel.  The trim is all original; it has just been finished to perfection. Other restyling components are the trunk handle, a bigger V from a 1937 Ford, and some custom-made Ford truck mirrors. The engine bay showcases superb craftsmanship, while the pristine dash and gauges emphasize the coupe's overall elegance. To add to this list, a Hildebrandt oil filter, a custom fabricated air cleaner, and an original '35 body and Columbia 2-speed rear end were added, making this vehicle stand as one of the finest '35 Ford coupes. It's a breath of fresh air to encounter a vehicle like this that has the perfect combination of hot rod modifications under the hood while keeping the essence of its era in a truly captivating manner.
