Used Ford GT For Sale
2005-2006 Introduction
Near the end of the last century, American automakers were building for the status quo, with many models simply being evolutions of the same formulas they had been producing for decades. The Ford GT for sale in 2005 was a concept car with a modern interpretation of the classic racer and it debuted at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show. Not many cars can be described in two letters, but a Ford GT evokes more emotion and desire than almost any other sports car for sale. Ford Motor Company was approaching a centennial celebration, so they decided to commission several concept cars for the festivities.
2005-2006 Price Comparison
In 2005, the MSRP was a relative bargain with a sticker price of $149,995 but dealers and collectors knew the limited production model would only increase in value. Dealers were quick to adjust their listings price, and some cars approached a quarter-million dollars before they were ever produced. In comparison, a 2005 Lamborghini Murcielago had a starting price of almost $320,000.
2005-2006 Overview
Many auto journalists and Ford enthusiasts loved the concept, but they were quick to chastise the designers for building such a beautiful concept that would never see the light of day. In a move that shocked the world, Ford announced the car would be produced in limited numbers, to be released in the 2005 model year. Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and is one of the most powerful automobile corporations in the world. With an emphasis on building affordable transportation for American workers, Ford introduced the 40-hour workweek and salary compensation above the national average in order to keep his workers building the best cars and trucks on the market. Company headquarters are in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, but Ford assembly plants can be found on every inhabited continent.
2005-2006 Ford GT Production
What makes these cars appreciate in value is their limited numbers. For 2005 only 2,027 Ford GTs were produced, and for 2006 only 2,011 Ford GTs were assembled. The remaining parts were put into inventory for crash repairs, but those were quickly depleted. With such a high level of grip and power, many GTs met their fate well before their prime. If you intend on daily driving yours, you might want to find a donor car to keep in mothballs should the unfortunate happen. Only 4038 Ford GT's were built in total. Collectors searched classifieds to buy wrecked GT’s for spare parts or to make big money in the retail parts market. Look for cars with equipment upgrades. Racing stripes, McIntosh sound system, forged alloy wheels, and painted brake calipers. These 4 option cars had a price increase of $13,500 added to the MSRP. The 2006 heritage edition is a throwback to the hay days of Ford's racing career that proudly shows off the Ford GT Gulf Livery colors.
2005-2006 Ford GT Horsepower, Dimensions, Specs & Performance
Without the big-block V8 engines of the past, Ford’s Special Vehicle Team combined the 5.4L block from the F150 and the dual overhead cam cylinder heads of the Cobra R along with a Lysholm style supercharger to create 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The all-aluminum V8 was bolted to a close-ratio six-speed manual transaxle geared with a 3.36 final drive. Having that much power with such a tall differential resulted in a top speed of 205 mph. This placed the supercar in direct competition with the most expensive cars in the world. It featured a wheelbase of 106.7 inches with a height of only 44.3 inches from the asphalt. Aluminum-intensive construction resulted in a 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds thanks to staying in 1st gear for the entire run.
2005-2006 Interior
Ford could have taken the easy route in regards to the interior. Many automakers share interior components among their vehicles in order to save money. Ford chose to make the GT exclusive by crafting the interior of leather and machined aluminum and sourcing the audio system from McIntosh. Many hours were spent on ergonomics and aesthetics, as the vehicle is very comfortable. The six-speed shifter is precise and light, with a strong return to center being the 3-4 gates. The clutch pedal is hydraulic and predictable, but it could be considered stiff to novice drivers.
2005-2006 Maintenance
With such a solid foundation, the aftermarket quickly realized the potential of the 5.4L V8, since it shared many parts with the Mustang and F150 models. If you can change your own oil, the GT is your next car. The rear-mounted powertrain is remarkably easy to service. Even a new clutch wouldn't be too difficult to tackle for the shade tree mechanic. Tire technology has changed greatly over the past decade, so installing new rubber would be one of the greatest upgrades you could make.
2017 New Ford GT
Fans of Ford Racing are rejoicing at the return to the world stage. The 2017 Ford GT for sale is proving itself a force to be reckoned with on the track. Deep under Ford’s Product Development Center in Dearborn is a room that was off-limits for over 14 months. Only a few top executives and senior design members had access to the studio. Working with 3D artists from Microsoft, the car was launched in the virtual world as a playable car on Mircosoft’s Forza 6 on Xbox.
2017 Ford GT Price
With such a labor-intensive build process, Ford has limited production to 250 for the 2017 model year. Potential buyers must submit applications to Ford in order to be selected for purchase. This caused a storm of social media buzz with videos of the application process going viral. The Ford GT price is expected to be $485,000 but dealers will inevitably add a “ market adjustment” to the window sticker.
2017 Ford GT Engine
By far the most significant aspect is how it makes power. Shocking the automotive world, the GT arrived with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 from their EcoBoost lineup. Many derided the diminutive size, but the proof is in the numbers. The 2017 GT makes over 600 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. The engine and turbochargers are closely related to the 2017 Ford Raptor and Taurus SHO.
2017 Specs/Dimensions/Performance
The secretive design team known as Ford’s Skunkworks had several goals for the return of Ford's halo car. Their primary focus was to build a car with the best power to weight ratio in the industry. To do this, extensive use of carbon fiber was employed to achieve a curb weight under 2,900 lbs. This is achieved with a narrow cockpit flanked by flying buttresses that connect the rear quarter panels to the roof. Production details are being fine-tuned on race tracks around the world in order to make sure the 2017 GT is a force to be reckoned with.
2017 Ford GT Interior
Another area where weight was shed is in the Spartan carbon fiber interior. Eliminating any unnecessary components, Ford even dispensed with seat tracks. The heavy stamped steel seat tracks were ditched in favor of integrating the seats into the floor pan. Pedals and controls are adjustable for driver comfort. The dash has a numbered plaque to display the car’s production number and rarity. The most important controls are within easy reach of the steering wheel in order to keep distractions to a minimum. Whereas its predecessor had aluminum trim throughout, it is clear to see that the 2017 GT was built to perform.
2017 Carbon Fiber
Ford’s first production car to be comprised mostly of composites, carbon fiber is used for the unibody or monocoque, fenders, seats, dash, and even the wheels. Bringing together the best minds in the industry has led to advances in production. Instead of the complicated weaving processes that involve new tooling, the 2017 will rely on layers of hand-laid carbon fiber for most of the construction.
As an homage to their first race-winning supercar, the Ford GT40, Ford launched the GT as part of their centennial celebration. Concept versions were introduced at auto shows in 1995 and 2002, but it wasn’t until 2003 that a production prototype was finally seen by the public. It entered a short production run in 2005, which ended the next year.
There was an incredible amount of demand for them when it was first available for sale, and many sold for nearly double the MSRP of $139,995. The first-generation GT is able to produce 550 hp and 500 lb-ft from a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine made completely of aluminum. An electronically limited top speed of 205 mph could be reached, with an average 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
After much anticipation, Ford debuted the second-generation GT at the 2015 North American International Auto Show, announcing that it will enter production in 2016. It will also be entered into the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, as that year will mark the 50th anniversary of the original car's victory at the race. Though exact specifications for this new Ford GT for sale have yet to be confirmed, there are estimates that the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 will be capable of propelling the car from a standstill to 60 mph in 3 seconds, while creating upwards of 600 hp.
The new 2018 Ford GT for sale is shaping up to be one of the greatest American supercars ever created. That being said, it’s also shaping up to be a very, very rare American supercar. Because of its exclusiveness, Ford has asked prospective buyers to send in an application, which the company will use to determine future owners of the GT. Of the applications submitted, the American car company plans to narrow the prospects to 250 applicants per year, for four years. In other words, a total of 1,000 examples over a four year period will hit the streets, all of which will be sold to a hand-selected few.
The new American supercar has the heart of a 3.5-liter V6 engine that comes with Ford’s EcoBoost technology. The legendary automaker has been quiet about the intricacies of the GT, but they have announced that the supercar will produce over 600 horsepower.
Aiding the car in its search for speed, Ford has gone to some extremes in order to drop its weight. One interesting weight reduction technique lies right before the eyes of the driver. Instead of a typical windshield, the new GT will use new glass technology that is similar to what is found on smartphones. This modification results in a 32 percent lighter and 25-50 percent thinner windshield.
Being a revival of such an iconic car, Ford introduced its own nod to the GT’s of the past. The new ’66 Ford GT Heritage Edition pays respect to the No. 2 race car. Back in 1966, Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon drove a GT40 Mark II, donning the same number, to victory at Le Mans. Now, 50 years later, a fitting tribute to that victory will be brought into the world.
This year, American muscle car enthusiasts everywhere were reunited with an old flame. The GT re-entered the spotlight at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in January, but the car’s debut was more than just a reintroduction. Held in the heart of the American automotive industry and the car manufacturer’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan, the new supercar made its first public appearance and reclaimed its old stomping ground in one fell swoop. Sure to be the start of a modern supercar era for the automaker, Ford plans to show off the 2017 GT’s American grit at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a famously grueling race known to challenge even the most skilled drivers and advanced supercars. The 2016 GT revival is forged with a twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine that yields more than 600 horsepower, making it the most powerful EcoBoost engine Ford has ever created. Ford employed the use of lightweight materials to capitalize on the car’s performance, using carbon fiber to construct the passenger cell and body panels and aluminum in the front and rear subframes.
2019 Ford GT
Car enthusiast or novice, the Ford GT has an unmistakably ferocious exterior style that hints at its dominant composition. The angular curves and robust lines that are a staple for Ford GT models remain in place for the latest model while aerodynamic components aim to complement the impressive 647 horsepower production generated by the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine. By reducing the weight of former GT models, the performance and handling of the latest GT will see the largest improvement though the top speed of 216 MPH will remain unchanged. Other changes include an all-new interior design which incorporates features like genuine leather and contrasting stitching.
