This superfast sports car was engineered and marketed by German automobile manufacturing giants Porsche during a 7 year period (1986 to 1993).
The Porsche 959 was initially manufactured as a rally Group B car and afterward as a street-legal production vehicle designed to meet with the FIA homologation regulations which required a minimum of 200 units for production.

Throughout its manufacturing run, the 1987 Porsche 959 was regarded as the most mechanically advanced on-road automobile ever built, and a predecessor to other forthcoming sports vehicles. 
The Porsche 959 was among the first top-performance sports vehicles to have all-wheel drive, which set the stage for the first 911 Carrera 4 all-wheel-drive model from the same manufacturer.

The Porsche 959 boasts a twin-turbocharged, all-wheel-drive, 2.8-liter flat-6 approaching 444 horsepower with a torque of 369 lb.-ft, capable of propelling the sports car to approximately 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds plus a maximum speed of about 197 mph. 
It was among the first vehicles made with an adjustable suspension system and weight-balancing magnesium wheels.

To build a lightweight, rugged, shell, Porsche utilized a Kevlar compound blended with aluminum for the car’s body panels and framework construction, rather than the steel material frequently used on other production cars.
Porsche manufacturers also developed the vehicle’s aerodynamics, which was designed to boost stability by featuring the PSK (Porsche-Steuer Kupplung), an all-wheel-drive technology capable of powerfully changing the distribution of torque between the front and rear wheels during both normal and slippery road conditions.
