Entering the luxury crossover market is a bit of a wild card, the German sports car builder succeeded as a luxury sports SUV, gaining a wide audience of admirers. In its first generation from 2002-2010, the Porsche Cayenne for sale set the groundwork for its trimmed and lightened 2011-present version. Offered a wide range of power and capabilities, with original engine options ranging from a 250 hp 3.2-liter VR6 to a 399 hp 4.8-liter V8. The S, with a 0-60 mph time of 7.1 seconds, fits in the middle of the pack, while the Turbo spools the first generation to 60 mph from a standstill in 5.1 seconds.

In its second generation, 550 lbs were cut due to an extensive use of aluminum and magnesium over the previous version. With less weight, the base model increased output power to 300 hp and upped the top-of-the-line GTS’s 2015 output to 430 hp. In this new generation, the Hybrid was also offered in 2010 with a 3.0-liter gasoline engine and electric motor. Come 2014, the original hybrid gave way to the new S E-Hybrid, which was the first plug-in hybrid SUV in the luxury segment. With the S E-Hybrid came the bragging rights of being the first automaker with three plug-in hybrid models.
