A genuine, full matching-numbers example, this car retains its original chassis, engine, transmission, and all moving body panelsâincluding the doors, hood, engine lid, and bumpersâall of which are stamped with numbers matching the chassis.(Look up pictures at the fare end, you can preview the Reutter Report and sample of the binder). Side-by-side âbeehiveâ taillights replaced the earlier vertical setup, while front signal indicators moved just below the headlights. The new steering wheel included a horn button adorned with the Porsche crest. Mechanically, the 1953 model was notable for introducing the Type 519 gearbox with Porscheâs own synchromesh on all forward gears and upgraded 11-inch aluminum brake drums. That year also saw the debut of the America-series coupe and cabrioletâsimplified models developed at the request of legendary U.S. importer Max Hoffman.
